Pastor Scott Schmieding
Fighting Cancer with Faith

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you with my righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10)
Survive and thrive!
Rejoice in the LORD always. I will say it again: Rejoice! (Philippians 4:4)
Doctors treat illness, but only God can heal.
Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you… do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
Depend upon God for help and hope.
Cancer cannot erase love...
Cancer cannot shatter hope...
Cancer cannot overpower faith...
Cancer cannot harm friendship..
Cancer cannot destroy peace...
Cancer cannot cancel memories...
Cancer cannot invade our spirit...
Cancer cannot steal eternal life...
Cancer cannot lessen the power of Christ's resurrection!

As a cancer survivor Rev. Scott Schmieding found a unique and heartfelt way to thank the team he credits for helping him, and many other cancer patients, fight cancer.

Rev. Schmieding, a tongue cancer survivor treated at Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center (MBPCC), recently presented his radiation oncologist Dr. Robert Fields with a copy of a book Schmieding wrote and dedicated to Dr. Fields and the staff at Mary Bird Perkins.

Entitled ‘Fighting Cancer with Faith', Schmieding said it takes physical, emotional and spiritual strength to take on cancer. "My hope is that this booklet will be a spiritual help to those experiencing the ups and downs of cancer – that it will feed peoples' faith to help them fight the disease." Saying he chose to dedicate the book to Dr. Fields and the treatment staff at MBPCC "to express my appreciation for the care they give to countless others," Rev. Schmieding gave the staff a supply of the booklets to be made available to those who might enjoy its prayers and scriptures.

Rev. Schmieding wrote this devotional booklet during a sabbatical provided by a grant from the Clergy Renewal Program of the Eli Lily Foundation. He served at Trinity Lutheran Church in Baton Rouge 1992-2010 where he was Senior Pastor, and is currently Senior Pastor at Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Charles, MO.
